Rhoda, A Tragic & True Story of a Farmer's Daughter.

Rhoda Derry. Two words that have slipped off the tongue of many people over the last several years. After writing about my great-great-aunt, and participating in the documentary, "The Mysterious Rhoda Derry," I am still enamored with her story.

Rumor and mis-information has it that Rhoda Derry was born in Adams County, IL, and that she was the daughter of a wealthy farmer. The fact is that she was born in Indiana in 1834, not 1840, and my g-g-grandfather, her father, Jacob, though was indeed a farmer, was as dirt poor.
